Former Bangladesh cricket team captains Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafe bin Mortaza were at Ganabhaban Friday afternoon to meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sources confirmed.
This comes after Tamim, the One Day International captain for Bangladesh, unexpectedly announced his retirement from international cricket, abruptly ending a glittering 16-year international career, Thursday at a news conference in Chittagong.
Tamim made the revelation while surrounded by a mob of reporters.
He was visibly upset and in tears.
It happened the day after Bangladesh's defeat in the first of three ODIs against Afghanistan.
Tamim's retirement came as a shock to the cricket community, with Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hasan asking him to reconsider his decision.
PM Hasina also called Tamim to talk about the issue, and the left-handed opener returned to Dhaka from Chittagong responding to her call, as the cricketing world eagerly waits to see if he makes a return to the team with the ODI World Cup just around the corner.
Tamim's Ganabhaban visit also came on the advice of former captain and lawmaker Mashrafe.
