Bangladesh cricket team are set to depart New Zealand in the early hours of Thursday.
Bangladesh are travelling to the island country on the back of heavy failures over the past few months.
They had a dreadful experience in the T20 World Cup 2021 and then conceded defeats in the T20I and Test series against Pakistan at home.
The home series against Pakistan concluded Wednesday with hosts Bangladesh suffering a loss by an innings and eight runs in the second and final Test as the visitors swept both the T20I and Test series.
The squad for New Zealand is the same that played the second Test against Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Top-order batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy remained as the replacement of opener Saif Hasan who was ruled out from the second Test against Pakistan due to typhoid.
Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was included in the squad against the Kiwis but was later removed after the cricketer applied for leave from the tour citing personal reasons.
Bangladesh Cricket Board Wednesday announced uncapped Barisal Division left-hander Fazle Rabbi Mahmud as the replacement of Shakib for the New Zealand tour.
The 34-year old finished as the leading scorer in the recently concluded 23rd National Cricket League where he made 630 runs at an average of 60.3.
Bangladesh upon reaching New Zealand will be in a seven-day quarantine.
Following the quarantine, the tourists will be allowed to take the nets and play two two-day practice games – one intrasquad and the second against a New Zealand XI.
The first Test of the series will commence on the first day of year 2022 – January 1 – at Bay Oval in Tauranga.
The second and the final Test will be held at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from January 9.
Bangladesh in their tour to New Zealand earlier this year had faced the hosts in three ODIs and as many T20Is and fell to defeat in all the games.
Squad
Mominul Haque (Captain), Shadman Islam, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Nurul Hasan, Fazley Rabbi, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Jayed Chowdhury, Ebadat Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Shahidul Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Mohammad Naim
