Tushar bids adieu to his prolific First-class career

Tushar Imran, the highest run-getter in Bangladesh first-class cricket’s history, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Sunday ahead of the sixth and final round of the ongoing National Cricket League.
The 37-year-old Tushar had aimed to hang his boots following the game for his team Khulna Division against Dhaka Division but knee injury kept him out of action. Thus, the previous Khulna game, against Rangpur Division held earlier this month has become Tushar’s final appearance on a top notch cricket match as a player.
Tushar, who has played for Khulna division in first-class cricket throughout his career, wanted to bid adieu to cricket after the 22nd edition of the NCL earlier this year. The veteran cricketer however had to bring change to his plan after the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] postponed that edition in April after two rounds due to upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Tushar was just 28 runs away from 12 thousand runs in first-class cricket having scored 11,972 runs from 173 games at an average of 42.75 with 32 hundreds and 63 fifties. He has scored 4,439 runs in 173 List-A games with 30 half-centuries and one century.
The right-handed batter appeared for Bangladesh in five Tests and 41 ODIs. In Test, he has scored 89 runs and 574 runs in one-day internationals.
“I always knew it will be a tough decision to take but never thought it will be this tough. It is hurting me. It is not easy to move away from cricket which has been a major part of my life. One has to say good bye. I missed playing the first two rounds and this round [ongoing] but still I have decided to bring an end to my long career,” said Tushar to the media.
“Many had suggested I could play one more season. I had actually declared I will retire after scoring 12000 runs in first-class cricket and also that I will remove myself if I am not being able to score. I played three games and five innings this season. At that point [start of the season] I needed 78 runs to reach the milestone. But I have not been able to score and that doesn’t go well with my image. I have played cricket scoring runs. I am injured now and that’s why it’s not happening. I have not been able to score even 78 runs in five innings so I though it’s time to hang the boots,” the batter added.
BKSP advisor of cricket Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, member of the national selection panel Abdur Razzak and Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh [CWAB] general secretary Debabrata Paul were present in Tushar’s retirement ceremony held at BKSP Ground on Sunday.
Tushar had informed his decision to his longtime Khulna Division colleagues Mashrafe bin Mortaza and Shakib al Hasan. The star cricketers have wished him well for the future, Tushar informed.
