Bangladesh desperate to beat England against all odds

Bangladesh will hope they have regrouped well when they take on a high-flying England in Group 1 game of the Super 12s stage in the ICC T20 World Cup at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. The occasion will be the first of Bangladesh and England locking horns for a game in the shortest format.
Bangladesh are put under hard equation in the group having started the phase on a losing note slipping in the game against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh were in command in most part of the game against the Lankans at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday but eventually gifted the win to the opponents due to some crucial dropped catches.
Opener Liton Das has been considered the villain for dropping the crucial catches, of Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and since has been target of heavy criticism on social media, main stream media and in discussions within cricketing fraternity. The right-handed batsman was already under the scanner of the critics for his long below par performance with the willow.
The condition inside the Bangladesh camp has been gloomy since their start in the tournament. Losing to Scotland the team and few players had come under heavy scrutiny of Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan and ever since there has been indirect clash of words between the parties.
Under such circumstances Bangladesh team will eye to put up team effort for a win against England in order to keep themselves on course for the semis. Discussion is wide whether Bangladesh team management would rest Liton in the game and bring in Soumya Sarkar, who has been benched since the Scotland game.
But then it would mean the team will have to go out of their set and strongly believed theory – of the left and right-hand combination. With in-form Mohammad Naim and Soumya both being left-handed batsmen the decision makers might look at Mahedi Hasan as the option.
The off-spin all-rounder is handy with the bat and on number of occasions have opened for teams in domestic arena. In T20I, the right-handed batsman batted once as number one, against Australia, during the five-match home series in Dhaka in August this year.
Bangladesh batting will greatly rely on the middle-order consisted of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mahmudullah. The in-form Shakib had missed out scoring big against Sri Lanka but it was Mushfiqur Rahim who finally got back to runs with an unbeaten 57 - his first fifty in two years.
Mahmudullah will look to continue scoring for the team amid being on the receiving end for his questionable bowling changes in the Sri Lanka game.

England on the other hand will come into the game boosted with confidence. Considered to be one of the title contenders, England had a thumping start to the tournament after they demolished defending champions West Indies in their first game. Eion Morgan’s team was fairly clinical against the Windies despite some batting collapse in the middle order.
Pulling off a win against Bangladesh would make their path to the semifinals of the tournament easier.
