Bangladesh team are shell shocked after their first match loss against Scotland but the Tigers have vowed to bounce back strongly and promised to play aggressive cricket against hosts Oman in their second game of the qualifiers at Al Amerat Stadium, Muscat Tuesday.
Bangladesh have only one option to stay alive in this T20 World Cup, and that is to win both their remaining games.
And just winning two games might not be enough for the Tigers to go through because calculation of run rate might come into play.
So the Tigers have to win and win by a big margin.
Bangladesh had an optional training session Monday but most of the players took part in training in the evening session.
There might be one change in the playing XI in the all important match against Oman with opener Mohammad Naim likely to replace Soumya Sarkar.
Coach Russell Domingo came to the press conference on the eve of the Oman game and the South African believes Bangladesh will play good cricket and qualify for the super 12 stage.
“The boys are confident that we can get through. I have great belief in the boys. They have come out on top in some tight games over the last year. The boys are full of belief that we can overcome Oman and PNG, and put ourselves in a position to qualify for the main event,” said Domingo to the media.
“We know it’s a big game for us, a high-pressure environment. But, that’s why you play World Cups. These are the type of games you want to be winning. It is a great opportunity for the boys,” he added.
Although Bangladesh batsmen, particularly senior players, are struggling for runs in recent times, Domingo has full confidence on the batting unit and said good performances are just around the corner.
“You can never say they (senior batsmen) are liabilities. They are world-class players. They know that maybe they didn’t play at the level that they are used to playing. They are champion cricketers for Bangladesh. I have no reason to question their capabilities. Just a few months ago, Riyad (Mahmudullah) won us games against Australia and New Zealand. He may be a bit rusty having not played a warm-up game. But I can never question their quality. There are big performances around the corner,” said Domingo.
Bangladesh might go for three pacers as well against Oman as the pacemen bowled well in the powerplay overs in the first game.
Mustafizur Rahman will be crucial as he is the key weapon for Bangladesh in their bowling armory.
But overall bowling looks good in the last few months.
It is the batting that is the matter of concern for Bangladesh.
The batsmen need to fire all guns blazing Tuesday because it’s win or bust for the Tigers.
On the other hand, Oman camp is in a good mood after their dominating win in the first game.
A 10-wicket victory against Papua New Guinea with 38 balls remaining has given them extra confidence against Bangladesh.
This is a big opportunity for Oman to qualify for the next round and if they can win one game from their remaining two, then they will progress to the main round.
The match will start at 6pm local time and 8pm Bangladesh time.
