After a lot of drama and anticipation, the dates and venues of the 16th edition of the Asia Cup were announced Thursday by Asian Cricket Council.

The tournament, to run from August 31 to September 17, will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka.

The 2023 edition will feature two groups, with top two teams from each pool qualifying for the Super Four stage.

The top two sides from the Super Four stage will then face off in the grand finale.

India, Pakistan and Nepal have been pitted in one group with the other pool featuring Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The Lankans are the defending champions, having beaten Pakistan in the final last year in the United Arab Emirates where the tournament was played in Twenty20 format.

The last 50-over Asia Cup was held in 2018, also in the UAE, where India emerged victorious after defeating Bangladesh in an exciting final.

Out of the 15 editions, two have been played in T20 format, the other occasion being 2016.

The 2023 edition will be held in 50-over format as the teams prepare themselves for the upcoming One Day International World Cup, set to be held in India in October-November.
