National cricketers, Bangladesh “A” and the Under-23 cricketers all be involved in a practice match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today, following a grueling schedule of fitness training that they have recently been through.
The game will be supervised by national coach Shane Jurgensen, along with his panel and will be watched by the national selection panel, led by former national skipper Akram Khan.
Performances in the game are likely to be considered by the selectors as they finalise the Bangladesh “A” and Bangladesh Under-23 squads for an upcoming tour of England.
Injured national seamer Nazmul Hassan will miss the game. The right arm bowler injured his knee while bowling in the nets during the Sri Lanka tour in March and underwent surgery under the supervision of Australian surgeon David Young in June.
Nazmul is currently under rehabilitation and unable to play in matches.
“I do sometimes feel depressed about the injury. Feel like the luck is against me. Sometimes it is the injury which kept me away from the team and sometimes, the team combination,” Nazmul told the media Wednesday.
“However, we are professional cricketers so there is no room for depression. My job is to get myself fit and get back to the team as soon possible,” he added.
Nazmul has begun bowling in the nets from a shortened run-up and it will take another 10 days of so before the 25-year old is able to return to his full run-up. The national selectors wanted to include Nazmul in the “A” team touring party, but the board’s physiotherapist assessed that the tour would be too risky for the bowler.
