Mohammedan Sporting Club are determined to better their performance in the upcoming Dhaka Premier League.
The Motijheel based outfit, who could not finish in the Super Six last season, have signed star cricketers in Shakib al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Imrul Kayes and Mehedi Hasan Miraz, among others.
However, there are doubts regarding the availability of Shakib in the premier 50-over tournament of the country that is set to start from this Wednesday.
Following a meeting between the club officials and players at a city hotel Saturday, Shakib hoped to be available as much as possible, although the schedule ahead for the star cricketer suggests he will mostly be missing in action for the traditional giants.
Shakib is set to be busy with the home series against the Irish, starting next Saturday, before traveling to Ireland for three one-day internationals and four Twenty20 internationals.
This will be followed by his stint with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2023.
“I will try to play for Mohammedan but you know I have national team commitment and there is IPL. Still, I will try to play as many matches as possible and accompany the team,” Shakib said to the media.
“We could not make it to the Super League as a number of players failed to feature for the side due to national commitment. Hopefully we can play as a team in this season and fulfil the long-awaited dream of the club,” the Bangladesh Test and T20I captain added.
The Black and Whites have declared left-handed top-order batter Imrul as the captain for the season.
Imrul has switched to Mohammedan from Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Shakib had a similar situation with Mohammedan last season as he could not represent the Motijheel side due to busy international schedule and family emergency.
By the time he was available, Mohammedan had exited from the first phase of the tournament.
Shakib later played for Legends of Rupganj in the remaining matches of the league.
