Shane Jurgensen, the head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, will not be touring with the Bangladesh “A” team in England next month, contrary to reports by a leading Bangla daily newspaper published on July 7. The head coach of the Tigers e-mailed the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday about missing the tour.
As the New Zealand team will be touring Bangladesh in October, Bangladesh “A” team is scheduled for a month long tour, starting August 2. They will play eight limited over matches in England and it was learnt that many of the national team players will be the part of the team.
Bangladesh under-23 team will also take part in a tournament in Singapore starting August 14 and Bangladesh under-19 side will begin their tour of England on July 28.
Though it was reported that Shane Jurgensen will travel with the “A” team as coach, the sources said on July 7 that Jurgensen e-mailed to the BCB saying that he wants to work with the national team to prepare for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.
Rumours of Jurgensen’s tour with the “A” team was criticized by many of cricket officials, who felt that as head coach of the national team, he should not be touring with the “A” team before a big home series and the BCB had many alternative options.
Meanwhile the batting and fielding coach of the Bangladesh team Corey Richards will be touring with the “A” team in England as the coach instead.
The 37 year old Australian was initially appointed as fielding coach for Bangladesh and later given the job of batting coach for the Tigers.
