A woman cricketer was killed and two others were critically injured in a road accident when their motorbike collided with a passenger bus on Friday afternoon.
The accident took place in front of Rabbi filling station near Kashipur intersection on Barisal-Dhaka highway.
The deceased iAnushka Akhter Liza, 18, daughter of Abu Jaher and a resident of Rasulpur village in Charfesson upazila of the Bhola district.
The injured riders are Shaon, 20, and Zubair Ahmed, 20.
Police Inspector (Investigation) Lokman Hossain of Barisal Metropolitan Airport confirmed the matter.
He said: “After the accident, the three injured were rescued and sent to the hospital. One of them died and other two were admitted there. Apart from this, the Sakura Paribahan bus which was involved in the accident has been impounded. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received.”
Dhaka TribuneAnushka along with two of her friends, Shaon and Zubair Ahmed, was riding a motorcycle from Kashipur in the direction of Nathullabad Terminal on Friday.
In front of a gas station, close to the Kashipur crossroads, the motorcycle collided head-on with the Dhaka-bound Sakura Paribahan. The motorcycle began to flip and twist as a result.
Anushka passed away while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Airport police sub-inspector (SI) Riaz said: “Anushka used to play cricket in different teams in Barisal. As she was a good cricket player, she used to play matches with teams outside Barisal many times. Further inquiries are being made about her. Besides, two other injured are under treatment in the hospital. We will also talk with them.”
