After a series of experiments recently, Bangladesh team think-tank finally decided to make regular openers do the job.
The side in their opening game of the Twenty20 World Cup, against the Netherlands at Bellerive Oval Monday, decided to open with left-handed batters Soumya Sarkar and Nazmul Hossain Shanto.
The decision came on the back of captain Shakib al Hasan's outburst on the media regarding making the regular openers perform the responsibility.
Ahead of the world event, including the official practice matches, Bangladesh have been busy tinkering with the opening slot which includes making middle-order batters Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Sabbir Rahman open in a series of matches.
Soumya and Shanto on the day however, gave Bangladesh their first 40-plus runs opening stand in 30 games.
The pair broke with the departure of Soumya in the sixth over.
The left-handed batter was last minute replacement in the squad for the T20 World Cup and in his fourth international game since November 2021, Soumya scored a run-a-ball 14.
Shanto on the other hand was aggressive with fluent drives and before perishing added 25 off 20 laced with four boundaries.
Bangladesh in the powerplay had put on 47 runs for the loss of one wicket.
