Rangpur beat Chattogram inside three days in the second round of the country’s premier first-class competition, the National Cricket League, in Mirpur Wednesday.
The other tier one game between Dhaka and Sylhet in Savar is finely poised ahead of the fourth and final day’s play Thursday as the latter require 108 more runs for victory with seven wickets in hand.
Rangpur v Chattogram, Tier 1
The port city outfit, all out for 126 in the first innings, resumed day three on 126/6 in their second after Rangpur were dismissed for 222 a day earlier.
Chattogram lost their last four wickets for 73 runs to give Rangpur a target of 104, which the latter chased down in 23.5 overs for the loss of three wickets with all-rounder Nasir Hossain remaining unbeaten on 45 and Tanbir Hayder at the other end on 36 not out.
Rangpur pacer Mukidul Islam was named player of the match for his seven-wicket haul.
Dhaka v Sylhet, Tier 1
Dhaka, who posted a disappointing 128 in the first innings, doubled their total in their second innings before getting dismissed after resuming day three on 88/2.
Experienced campaigner Shuvagata Hom top-scored for the capital city side with 89.
Sylhet’s 19-year old right-arm quick Tanzim Hasan Sakib finished with 5/53 – his maiden five-for in first-class cricket.
Sylhet, who were bundled out for 167 in their first innings, were set a target of 218 and at stumps on day three, they managed 110/3.
Barishal v Khulna, Tier 2
Khulna resumed the day on 169/8 and added 44 more runs before being all out for 213 to give Barishal a first-innings lead of 35 in Cox’s Bazar.
Khulna all-rounder Nahidul Islam completed his second first-class hundred on the penultimate day, scoring 129 with 10 fours and as many as seven sixes.
Barishal though extended their lead to 230 as they ended day three on 195/4.
Opening batter Mohammad Ashraful was undefeated on a painstaking 206-ball 55 while all-rounder Sohag Gazi was unbeaten on a quick 59-ball 64, featuring five fours and four sixes.
Dhaka Metro v Rajshahi, Tier 2
Riding on Mushfiqur Rahim’s 15th first-class ton, Rajshahi, resuming on 333/6, ended their first innings on 366 to take a handy 232-run lead.
Dhaka Metropolis made a lowly 134 in the first innings but came up with a much better reply in the second, ending the day on 191/4 to reduce the deficit to 41.
Opener Shadman Islam (52), veteran Marshall Ayub (59 not out) and wicketkeeper-batter Zahiduzzaman (51) all posted half centuries.
