Left-arm spinner Nabil Samad and right-arm seamer Mukidul Islam Monday starred on the opening day of the second round of the National Cricket League as the day mostly belonged to the bowlers.
Dhaka v Sylhet, Tier 1
Nabil bagged nine wickets in the first round and continued from where he had left off as Sylhet, bowling first, dismissed the capital city outfit for 128 in Savar.
Nabil finished with 5/36 and was ably supported by right-arm pacemen Khaled Ahmed and Abu Jayed, who both picked up two wickets each.
Sylhet ended the day on 59/2 with No 3 batter Amit Hasan and captain Zakir Hasan unbeaten on 24 and 23 respectively.
Chattogram v Rangpur, Tier 1
Opening batter Tamim Iqbal made 19 off 25 balls as the port city side, invited to bat first, were all out for 128 in Mirpur.
Mukidul ended with 4/33 while medium pacers Musfik Hasan and Alauddin Babu shared five wickets between themselves.
Rangpur in reply scored 96/2 before stumps were drawn with opener Abdullah al Mamun making 31 and Tanbir Hayder (29) and Naeem Islam (19) remaining unbeaten.
Barishal v Khulna, Tier 2
Sent in to bat first in Cox’s Bazar, Barishal ended the day on 210/7 after useful contributions from skipper Fazle Mahmud (63) and Salman Hossain (79).
Dhaka Metropolis v Rajshahi, Tier 2
Dhaka Metro, the fourth side to be invited to take first guard on the day, were skittled out for 134 in the face of some disciplined bowling by Rajshahi in Chittagong.
Right-arm pacers Nahid Rana and Farhad Reza took three wickets each.
In reply, Rajshahi concluded the day on 72/2 with the veteran Junaid Siddique not out on 32 and young Towhid Hridoy unbeaten on 26.
National cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim is scheduled to come out to bat Tuesday for Rajshahi.
