Bangladesh Cricket Board has signed a 48-month contract with Australian firm Popullous Pte. Limited as the International Consultant for the Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium in Purbachal, Dhaka.
A signing ceremony was held between the BCB and Populas at a city hotel Wednesday.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and Andrew Frederick James, Director, Popullous Pte. Ltd, along with other dignitaries were present at the signing of the agreement which consists 387 pages.
Populas will be responsible for completing work of the Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium within 30 months from the day of signing.
And in the following 12 months the firm will be accountable in maintenance of the biggest cricket venue of the country.
Among the two short listed Australian organizations, BCB awarded the tender to Populas to build the venue named after the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Populas has the experience of building famous sporting venues around the world that has been part of the Olympics and Fifa World Cup.
“BCB has completed the first phase of constructing the Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium. Populas has been given 48 months to complete the job. In the first six months they will work on the design and then 30 months in constructing the venue. In the remaining 12 months they will work on the maintenance,” said Nizamuddin to the media.
Populas during the signing ceremony presented a draft design of the stadium which is going to have the shape of a boat.
BCB will disclose the financial details of the mega project following confirmation of the design.
Populas will contract with a local a builder to construct the venue.
