Sriram: Country will be proud for the brand of cricket the team will play

Sriram urged Bangladesh supporters, media to back the team

Update : 11 Oct 2022, 07:27 PM

Bangladesh T20 side’s technical consultant Sridharan Sriram has claimed that the team thinktank has found the fundamentals of the combination heading to the Twenty20 World Cup 2022, scheduled to begin in Australia later this month.

The claim from former Indian cricketer Sriram has come on the back of the team struggling with the batting combination and suffering defeats in the format, including those in the ongoing T20 Tri Nation Series involving Pakistan and hosts New Zealand.

Bangladesh team has been facing heavy criticism over the selection process and the experiment with makeshift openers Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Sabbir Rahman.

Speaking in a video message Tuesday Sriram said the accessing of the players is work in progress and that they will soon find the best possible combination for the T20 World Cup.

Sriram believes people will be proud of the way Bangladesh will play in the world event.

“I am requesting the supporters and the media to be in support of the team. This is a national matter and of everyone’s emotion. I can assure that the boys are trying to give their best to bring glory to the country. One of the values in the team is to make Bangladesh proud and get wins for the supporters,” said Sriram.

“I would request everyone to be partied. We have already found the fundamental of the squad. We are waiting for the T20 World Cup. We will get our answers. We will for sure make Bangladesh proud for the brand of cricket we will play,” he added.

Bangladesh in the ongoing Tri Series have lost both the two matches played – one each against Pakistan and New Zealand.

In the round robin league, Bangladesh will play New Zealand and Pakistan again.

Despite the defeats Sriram said there are positives and improvements to look at.

“There has been a decent progress in the middle orders. The way [Yasir Ali] Rabbi played Haris Rauf and [Nurul Hasan] Sohan played Trent Boult – these are positive signs. They must have gained confidence playing these world class bowlers well,” Sriram explained.

“It is motivating to see how [Nazmul Hossain] Shanto is playing on his return in the team. It is positive to see how he dealt [Trent] Boult and [Tim] Southee though that he got out scoring 30. The fast bowlers are being able to execute more of the plans in the field. Taskin [Ahmed] has bowled well, Shariful [Islam] bowled well in the second game and it is encouraging to see how Hasan [Mahmud] has bowled coming back from injury,” he added.

Bangladesh in their third game of the series will take on hosts New Zealand Wednesday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

The game is scheduled to begin at 8am Bangladesh Time.
