A dejected Bangladesh cricket team returned to Dhaka Saturday morning following a disappointing run in the Asia Cup Twenty20 2022.
Bangladesh cricketers returned home without registering a single win in the six-team tournament played in T20 format.
Shakib al Hasan-led Bangladesh T20 side first swallowed a seven-wicket defeat against Afghanistan in their first group match of the competition’s 15th edition.
In a do or die situation they faced Sri Lanka, and despite putting up a good fight they finished on the losing side by two wickets and bowed out meekly from the tournament.
Bangladesh team arrived at the capital at around 9am but avoided the media at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud stayed back in the United Arab Emirates with the family and will be returning to the country in a couple of days.
The team will now look forward to the tri-nation T20 series involving Pakistan and hosts New Zealand in early October.
The series will serve as preparation for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia later next month.
Following a nine-day break, the cricketers will regroup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on September 12 for a three-day camp to be conducted by technical consultant Sridharan Sriram.
The camp will not only include the current fold of T20 players in the national dressing room but also those who have been around in recent times.
It is understood that Sriram and the national team want to look at different options - cricketers who are not currently in the national fold - before chalking the squad for the T20 World Cup.
The cut-off time for the participating teams in the world event to declare the squads is September 15.
Until Saturday only England and hosts Australia announced their squads for the tournament.
