Naim, Ebadat called up for third Zimbabwe ODI

Liton, Taskin, Shariful are currently nursing injuries

Update : 06 Aug 2022, 08:19 PM

Top-order batter Mohammad Naim and right-arm pacer Ebadat Hossain will be joining Bangladesh ODI team in Harare for the third and final ODI of the series against hosts Zimbabwe.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board made the announcement at the back of injury concerns in the dressing room.

Bangladesh lost opener Liton Das for the remainder of the series to hamstring injury picked up during the first ODI, after scoring 81, in Harare Friday.

Two pacers – Taskin Ahmed and Shariful Islam – are also being bothered with niggles.

Left-arm fast bowler Shariful was also unable to complete his 10-over spell in the first ODI after apparently hurting his knee while trying to grab a return catch off his own bowling.

“As there are a few injury concerns in the team, the team management has decided to send Naim and Ebadat to Zimbabwe in order to increase the squad depth. Both [Naim and Ebadat] of them will be boarding flight [Saturday]," chief of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin Nannu informed the media.

Bangladesh started the three-match ODI series on a losing note following a five-wicket loss Friday.

Ebadat and Naim however, will act as back-ups for the final ODI, scheduled for Wednesday, as Bangladesh are scheduled to play the second ODI today.

“They [Ebadat and Naim] will not be available for the second ODI as they will be travelling [Saturday]. The duo will be backups for the final ODI,” Minhajul added.

Left-handed batter Naim since his international debut in 2019 played two ODIs while Ebadat since his first appearance in 2019 has played only Test cricket.

Naim is part of the Bangladesh A team one-day squad for the tour of the West Indies and was scheduled to travel to the Caribbean islands Wednesday.
