Bangladesh Cricket Board will take another two or three days to announce the squad for the Asia Cup T20I and also the name of the captain.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan while speaking to the media Thursday informed that three names have been shortlisted as T20I skipper and that the board can only come to the decision after speaking to the cricketers.
The statement from the BCB chief has come amid strong buzz in the fraternity that all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is set to take the charge.
The other two names in the list are Mahmudullah and Nurul Hasan.
BCB had also included Liton Das in the list but the cricketer is said to have denied the board’s proposal.
Nazmul said the board first wants to sit with the available options for the T20I captain before coming to a decision.
“We have three names and this includes Mahmudullah too. But we are yet to decide. It is tough to comment before a decision is taken. The list includes Shakib too, there is no way to deny. There is Nurul too as many are considering him as the captain of the future but he is now injured and doubtful for the Asia Cup,” said Nazmul following the 6th Meeting of the BCB Board of Directors at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“Whoever we decide we first need to sit and discuss in details with him and also know well if he really wants to be the captain. One of them has already said no. So, it is not only what the board or the management thinks. You need to consider all the facts and options,” the BCB supremo added.
Bangladesh had named wicketkeeper-batter Nurul the T20I captain for the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe after the BCB decided to rest Mahmudullah along with experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim from the series.
Nurul picked up an injury in the second match of the three-T20I series against the African hosts and BCB appointed Mosaddek Hossain as skipper for the third and the final game.
The surprise however, was the inclusion of Mahmudullah for the third game as replacement to injured Nurul.
