Newly appointed Bangladesh U19 coach Stuart Law wants to establish the young cricketers not only as good player but also a good human being.
Former Australia cricketer Law was formally introduced as the Bangladesh U19 coach through a press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday. The Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] also introduced former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer as the BCB Game Development batting coach.
Bangladesh U19 made history winning the 2020 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup defeating India. Doing so the young cricketers got the country its first major trophy. Expectations were built on the success. It was expected the board and the U19 team will make the best effort to hold onto the achievement but as it happened the team failed in the 2022 U19 World Cup horribly.
BCB since has been working to avoid reparation of the failure. The Bangladesh U19 squad aiming the 2024 U19 World Cup has already been formed and to guide the young cricketers the BCB Game Development has roped in Law as the head coach and Jaffar as the batting consultant.

Law had previously worked as the Bangladesh national team head coach in year 2011-12 and then as the U19 team consultant during the 2016 U19 Cricket World Cup.
“I have worked with the U19 team in 2016 and had found [Mehidy Hasan] Miraz and Najmul Hossain [Shanto]. It amazing to see them now play in international cricket,” said Law who has already joined the current 40-member Bangladesh U19 camp. The final squad for the upcoming world cup will be formed from these 40 young cricketers.
“I have worked as the head coach for many teams around the world. To be honest there isn’t much scope to work as a coach in the international teams. The major work there is to have conversation with the players, set the strategies and look after the operations.
“But this job [with the U19 team] gives me the scope to work with the young cricketers. I have the room to make a difference not only in cricket skills but also grooming their personality. So, it was easy for me to say yest to this job,” Law added.

The Australian also wants to work on the social media handling not by restriction but by teaching the proper usage.
“Cricketers these days have to maintain many things off the field which was not there during our time. I am speaking of the social media platforms. We will try to teach the boys of this matter through a mind coach or may be some other way. They need to understand the good and the bad sides of the social media. The social media these days creates external pressure on the cricketers,” Law explained.
“You cannot make them stop using the social media but team them how to use it. If they can understand the bad then they can decide who to do and what not to,” said the former Australia cricketer.
