England overtake Bangladesh to top in Super League

Bangladesh in February this year had emerged as the first team to bag 100 points

Bangladesh have been pushed to number two in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League table after England claimed the top spot. With 125 points and 12 wins in 18 games England are now leading the table. Bangladesh at number two also have 12 wins in 18 games but are behind with 120 points.

Bangladesh in February this year had emerged as the first team to bag 100 points in the league by defeating Afghanistan 2-1 in a three-match series at home and had taken the top spot putting England behind.

Bangladesh then extended the lead securing an historic 2-1 ODI series win against hosts South Africa in March and take the tally to 120 points.

England moved ahead of Bangladesh in the table with the 3-0 series win in the just concluded series against Netherlands. The English registered a series whitewash against the Dutch on Wednesday with an eight-wicket victory in the third and the final ODI against the hosts.

England have the opportunity to extend the lead with Bangladesh as they will host India for a three-match ODI series in July.

Bangladesh on the other hand have no ODIs in the coming months that are part of the ICC Super League. Bangladesh, who are now in West Indies, will play three ODIs and will play as many matches in the format when they tour Zimbabwe in July-August. But none of the matches are part of the Super League.
