Bangladesh batter Yasir Ali Chowdhury has been ruled out from the forthcoming two-match Test series against hosts West Indies due to back injury.
The right-handed middle-order batter picked the injury while batting on Day 1 of the three-day practice match against a Cricket West Indies President’s XI on June 10.
A subsequent MRI scan revealed Discogenic Back Pain on the Lumbar spine and ruled Yasir out of action in the Test matches that are part of the ICC World Test Championship.
“Recovery from such injuries take about two to three weeks’ time. Therefore, he will not be available for the Test Series,” said national team physio Bayjedul Islam in a media release on Tuesday.
Yasir, who is part of also the Bangladesh ODI and T20I squad, will stay in West Indies and work on recovery and prepare for the white ball cricket.
The first Test against the West Indies start in Antigua on Thursday while the second Test begins on June 24 in St Lucia. This will be followed by a three-match T20I series and as many ODIs. The ODIs, however, are not part of the ICC World Cup Super League.
