Tamim shines with ton, Shanto fifty in practice game

Recent issues had no impact on Tamim as southpaw hits 140

Update : 11 Jun 2022, 09:22 PM

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal scored a ton and Nazmul Hossain Shanto a half-century while other batters failed to make an impression on day one of the three-day practice game against Cricket West Indies President’s XI at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua Friday.

At stumps Bangladesh posted 274 runs for six wickets with Tamim unbeaten in the middle with Mossadek Hossain [six].

Tamim at the end of the day’s play was unbeaten on 140 facing 240 deliveries while Shanto fell to left-arm fast bowler Preston Mc Sween, adding 54 runs to the board.

Tamim and Shanto put on 140 runs for the second-wicket stand.

Tamim, ahead of the tour, had made the headlines for several issues.

But those had no impact on the stylish left-handed batter as he reached his hundred in 162 deliveries involving 14 boundaries and one over boundary.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque, who stepped down recently as the Test captain, were both out for zero and their below par form remains a concern for the Bangladesh camp.

Liton Das and Nurul Hasan couldn’t score in double digit while Yasir Ali added 11 to the tally before getting retired hurt.
