Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim is set to miss the upcoming tour of the West Indies.

The right-handed veteran batsman took leave from the series in order perform Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Younus confirmed that the board has already granted Mushfiq the leave.

On the other hand, it was learnt from close sources of the Bangladesh team that all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is mulling skipping the ODI series against the Caribbean side.

Reason for Shakib considering missing the three ODIs between Bangladesh and hosts Windies is yet to be known.

“Mushfiq had asked for leave a month ago to perform Hajj. The board has now granted leave thus he will not travel to the West Indies with the team,” said Jalal to the media Saturday.

Bangladesh cricket team are set to travel to the West Indies on June 6.

In the month-long tour of the Islands, tourists Bangladesh will start with the two-match Test series, part of the World Test Championship.

The first Test will be played in Antigua between June 16 to 20.

The second Test will be held in St Lucia between June 24 to 28.

The Tests will be followed by a three-T20I series to be played on July 2, 3 and 7 respectively.

The three ODIs will be played in the last phase of the tour on July 10, 13 and 16 respectively.

The ODIs are not part of the World Cup Super League.

Meanwhile Bangladesh Test squad has returned to Dhaka following the Test in Chittagong against visitors Sri Lanka.

The team traveled back to the capital city Friday and opted to rest Saturday.

The second and final Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is scheduled to start at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur Monday.

The series is level after the first Test of the series finished in a draw following impressive batting display from both the sides.
