Update : 05 May 2022, 06:39 PM

Bangladesh cricket team are set to camp in port city Chittagong ahead of their two-match Test series against visitors Sri Lanka.

The Bangladesh national cricketers will travel to Chittagong Sunday and take the field the next day.

The Bangladesh cricket team last played against South Africa last month and upon returning home the cricketers took part in the Dhaka Premier League for their respective clubs and then enjoyed the Eid-Al-Fitr break.

The coaching staff has also started arriving in Dhaka.

National batting coach Jamie Siddons Thursday took to his social media account to inform that he is back and will soon start preparing the cricketers for the Sri Lanka Tests.

It is understood that a few cricketers like Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim will spend some time in the nets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka before heading to Chittagong.

Bangladesh dressing room meanwhile will be relieved with the availability of the left-arm pace bowler Shariful Islam.

Shariful, who was included in the squad for the first Test subject to fitness, was recently sent to Singapore for an assessment on his abdominal issues which bothered him for a long time.

However, the assessment suggested he will not require any operation at the moment.

“He (Shariful) is available for us from the opening Test against Sri Lanka as he will not require any operation at the moment. It will be big boost for us considering we are also missing the services of Taskin (Ahmed) at the moment,” said chief of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin to Cricbuzz last Saturday.

Hosts Bangladesh are already missing pacer Taskin and all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz due to injury.

Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain have been called up as replacements.

Taskin is scheduled to travel to England soon for treatment on his injured right shoulder.

Miraz is receiving treatment in Dhaka on the injured small finger of his right hand sustained during a DPL game and expected to be available for the second Test against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile visitors Sri Lanka cricket team are set to reach Dhaka Sunday morning and attend their first practice session at SBNCS the following day.

The Islanders are scheduled to play a two-day practice game at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan next Tuesday and Wednesday.

The game was previously scheduled to take place at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong but the Lankan management requested to play the game at BKSP.

Team Sri Lanka will travel to Chittagong on May 13 before taking on hosts Bangladesh in the first Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium from May 15.

The second Test will be played at SBNCS from May 23.

The two Tests are part of the World Test Championship.

With 12 points and just one win in six games, Bangladesh stand at No 8 in the points table, followed by England at No 9.

Sri Lanka on the other hand are at No 5 in the WTC standing with 24 points and two wins in four games.
