In-form Prime openers Tamim, Anamul finish with flurry

Update : 28 Apr 2022, 08:48 PM

Tamim Iqbal scored another century while Anamul Haque missed one narrowly but accumulated more runs in his record-breaking season on the last day of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Thursday.

Thanks to their double century stand Prime Bank Cricket Club put up a huge score before beating Gazi Group Cricketers, while league winners Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited lost to Legends of Rupganj and Abahani Ltd won against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club in the other matches of the day.

Prime v Gazi

Anamul became the first ever player in the world to score over 1,000 runs in a single edition of a List A tournament and his tally ended with 1,138 runs from 15 matches at an average of 81.28, thanks to his 96 off 85 against Gazi at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan-3.

On the other hand, Tamim, who played his fourth match of the tournament, clinched his second ton with 137 off 132 balls opening the innings with Anamul.

The Bangladesh ODI skipper ended the tournament with 344 runs at an average of 114.66.

After winning the toss the duo put on 215 runs off 31.5 overs and remaining batsmen scored runs quickly to register a mammoth 355/7 on the board.

Chasing the daunting target Gazi’s middle order batters Al Amin and SM Meherob scored 87 and 71 respectively but those were not good enough as they were all out for 277 in 47.5 overs and lost the match by 78 runs.

Rubel Hossain and Taijul Islam bagged three wickets apiece for Prime.

Rupganj v Jamal

The match at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium was the battle of the top two teams but as Jamal ensured their title before the game they seemed to be out of gas and were bundled out for 116 in 34.4 overs before Rupganj chased down the target in 25.1 overs losing two wickets and ensured to end the tournament at second position.

Al-Amin Hossain, the pacer who last played for Bangladesh back in 2020, opened the bowling and got six wickets conceding 31 runs to wreck the champions' innings.

Imrul Kayes scored 50 for Jamal.

Abahani v Tigers

After electing to bat first at BKSP-4 Abahani were reduced to 64/4 but Afif Hossain and Jaker Ali added 111 runs before the former was dismissed for 78.

Jaker scored 48 while Saifuddin, batting at eight remained not out on 62 off 41 balls to help Abahani post 275/9.

While chasing most of the Tigers batters failed to score significantly and No 6 Ariful Haque’s 95 off 73 just reduced the losing margin as they were all out for 212 in 45.5 overs to get beaten by 63 runs.
