Legends of Rupganj scored just 168 but eventually won their Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match comprehensively by 83 runs Tuesday as Brothers Union folded for meager 85 runs.
In the day’s another match, which was curtailed by rain, Shinepukur Cricket Club beat Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity by four wickets.
Rupganj v Brothers
At Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Rupganj were in all sorts of trouble as they lost half of their wickets for just 58 runs in the 22nd over but two former national team batters Naeem Islam and Sabbir Rahman resurrected the innings.
Naeem, the skipper scored 45 off 81 balls with the aid of two fours while Sabbir made 46 off 59 with three boundaries and more importantly added 81 runs for the sixth wicket stand before the latter was dismissed.
Rupgnaj were eventually wrapped up in 45.1 overs as Irfan Hossain grabbed four wickets conceding 23 runs for Brothers.
Chasing the lowly score Brothers lost their first wicket for 17 and second when the score was 31.
They lost wickets in bunches as Rupganj’s Indian recruit Chirag Jony got four wickets.
Naeem, who was adjudged player of the match, got three wickets including the last two in consecutive balls to end the match.
Shinepukur v Khelaghar
In the rain curtailed match at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan Ground 3, Khelaghar posted 216/8 in 33 overs.
Amit Majumder scored highest 57 while Salman Hossain and Mohammad Elias made 34 and 33 respectively.
Alauddin Babu got four wickets for Shinepukur.
In reply, Shinepukur made a brisk start as their opener Avishek Mitra scored 62 off just 56 balls while former Zimbabwe international Sikander Raza added 23 off 13 balls and Gazi Tahjibul remained not out on 40 off just 25 balls to help their side chase down the total in 31.3 overs and win the match by four wickets.
Babu was adjudged player of the match.
