Abahani Limited beat arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd while Mohammad Ashraful, former Bangladesh captain, scored a big ton to help Brothers Union win against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Tuesday.
In other match of the day, Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd clinched a thrilling one-wicket win against Prime Bank Cricket Club.
Abahani v Mohammedan
After losing the toss MSC lost their first two wickets when the score was 59 in the 13th over before former Pakistan international Mohammad Hafeez and Ruyel Miah added 115 runs for the third wicket stand.
However, the partnership consumed 143 balls and Hafeez got out for 70 off 101 balls.
The remaining batsmen were asked to accelerate the run rate from then on but they lost many wickets in pursuit of doing so and in the end were bundled out for 255 in 49 overs.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib got three wickets for Abahani.
In reply, Abahani lost their opener Mohammad Naim for a duck but Hanuma Vihari and Jaker Ali formed a 98-run stand to give a good launching pad for the chase.
Captain Mosaddek Hossain and Afif Hossain played the tailor-made innings as they remained not out with 52 off 37 and 48 off 38 to navigate their home with six wickets and as many as 22 balls to spare.
Afif, who earlier got two wickets, was adjudged player of the match.
Brothers v Tigers
Brothers have been struggling in the ongoing DPL as they had just one win in six matches but were sparked by a brilliant knock by their skipper.
Ashraful, who had a torrid time before the knock as he could amass only 79 runs in the tournament from six matches including two ducks, opened the batting and remained not out on 141 runs off 139 with the help of 16 fours and a six.
His opening partner Imtiaz Hossain got out for a duck but Myshukur Rahman played a good hand of 68 and more importantly formed a 150-run second wicket partnership.
Later on, Sri Lankan Chaturanga de Silva played a whirlwind innings of 51 off just 25 balls to help his side end on 309/4 at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan 3.
Chasing the stiff total, Tigers were on track as they reached 193/3 for thanks to a 110-run stand between Fazle Mahmud and captain Marshall Ayub before the latter was dismissed for 58 off 54.
Tigers start losing wickets but Fazle reached his ton.
However, he got out exactly on run-a-ball hundred as the eighth batter when the score was 249 in 45 overs before his side were eventually all out for 273 in 47.4 overs to be beaten by 36 runs.
Jamal v Prime
The most exciting match of the day took place at BKSP four where Jamal looked to be in trouble as they lost their ninth wicket on 239 in the 47th over chasing Prime’s 265/9.
But Kashmir-born Indian player Parvez Rasool steered his side home in the penultimate ball thanks to his unbeaten 65 off 51.
Rasool, who got 4/25 while bowling, was adjudged player of the match and his effort rendered in-form batter Anamul Haque’s 77-run innings, highest for Prime, ineffective.
