City, Shinepukur win thrilling matches

City Club beat Khelaghar by one wicket

Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2022 had an exciting day as it saw to one-wicket finishes in last overs on Sunday in different venues. 

City Club beat Khelaghar by one wicket at the BKSP ground 4 while Shinepukur Cricket Club won by the same margin against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

In other match of the day, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club clinched a comprehensive nine-wicket victory against Gazi Group Cricketers.

City v Khelaghar 

The 16-year-old Shahriar Alam Mahim came at the last batter when his team needed two of three balls. He failed to score anything off left-arm spinner Tipu Sultan’s next delivery but the left-handed batsman hit cleared the rope in his next try to seal the cliffhanger. 

Chasing Khelaghar’s 241-7 City were in a vantage position on 206-4 in 43rd over thanks to Ashik ul Alam Naem’s 74 and Zakirul Ahmed’s 72 in the middle order. However, they lost flurry of wickets and made the equation tight. Masum Khan, the 34-year-old seamer got four wickets while Tipu fetched a couple.

Earlier in the day, after losing the toss Khelaghar’s Amite Hasan scored 85 batting at number four and Salman Hossain made 66 to put a fighting total on the board.

Shinepukur v Rupganj

Shinepukur looked all but lost when they lost their ninth wicket on 142 chasing 172 but their last pair Ripon Mondal and Hasan Murad showed an incredible resolution to navigate the side home with two balls to spare thanks to their 33-run stand off 60 balls. 

Ripon, the 19-year-old paceman, who had an impressive U-19 World Cup earlier in the year, remained 28 facing 64 balls and his match winning effort with bat along with the bowling return of 3-30 earned him the player of the match accolade. 

Earlier, in the day, after losing the toss Rupganj were reduced to 98-6 but Fazle Mahmud played a gritty 52-run innings to take the total beyond 170-run mark. 

Jamal v Gazi 

At BKSP -3, after losing the toss Gazi lost wickets in regular intervals and bundled out for 157 in 36 overs while none of their batsmen could get over 30-run mark.

Player of the match Ziaur Rahman and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury got three wickets apiece. 

In reply, Jamal reached the target in just 26.3 overs as Shykat Ali made 77 while Saif Hasan scored 52.
