In pursuit of a maiden victory on South African soil across any format, Bangladesh began well in their latest tour against the Proteas posting a competitive 314/7 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first in the first ODI at SuperSport Park, Centurion Friday.
Here are all the records Bangladesh and their players broke en route to their first innings total of 314:
50th fifty for Shakib in ODIs
Shakib al Hasan became the second Bangladeshi to score 50 or more fifties in ODIs after Tamim Iqbal.
Highest total in South Africa
This was the Tigers' highest team total on South African soil. Their previous best of 278 was registered at Kimberley in 2017. The Tigers had lost that game by 10 wickets after hundreds from Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock.
First 50-run opening stand in South Africa
Tamim and Liton Das put on 95 - Bangladesh's first ever 50-run opening wicket stand in South Africa. In the previous nine ODIs here, 46 was the then highest opening wicket partnership for the Tigers.
Second 300-plus score against Proteas
This is only the second time the Tigers posted 300 or above against South Africa. On the last occasion, Bangladesh registered 330 in the 2019 World Cup where they emerged victorious by 21 runs.
Three half-centurions against South Africa
Home or away, this is the first time three Bangladeshis reached half century against the Proteas in a game. Two Bangladeshis have scored fifties in a match on six occasions against South Africa.
First 100-run stand in South Africa
In a total of 21 ODIs against the Proteas, Bangladesh have five century-plus stands, but Friday was the time the Tigers posted a century-plus partnership for any wicket in South Africa.
