Update : 14 Mar 2022, 08:08 PM

Bangladesh women's cricket team created history Monday in Hamilton when they beat Pakistan by nine runs to register their first ever win in the ODI World Cup.

Here are some reactions from those Tigresses who played key roles behind the momentous victory:

Nigar Sultana, Captain and WK batter

Winning the first game in an event like the World Cup is always special. Alhamdullilah, we needed this win for the momentum moving forward in the tournament. I am proud that I have been able to lead the women’s team to their first win in World Cup. Will hope to maintain the momentum in the coming days.

Rumana Ahmed, All-rounder

We are very happy. This is the first World Cup for us and we have been able to get to our first win defeating Pakistan. We had a convincing win. I felt we have been able to create history like the men’s team did during the 1999 World Cup. They had also won against Pakistan in their first World Cup. It is a big milestone for us and I hope we play with more confidence in remaining of our games in the World Cup.

Fargana Hoque, Top-order batter

Winning matches is always amazing but the win against Pakistan was important for us. We always had the belief that we can overcome challenges if we can play as a team. We have been able to do that and thus we were able to achieve the historic win. This win will boost us for the remaining four games we have in the competition. We need to play as a team and play accordingly to individual roles.

Fahima Khatun, Spin bowler

First of all thanks to the almighty Allah. No words can explain the feelings of winning the game. we had discussion within the team that we always play to win against Pakistan. We have the hunger against them. We tried to remain to our plans and we have been able to execute those plans and utilize the situation of the game well. There was a point when many from outside the field might have had thought the game has slipped from our hands, but the team always had the belief. We were not being able to take wickets but we were able to content runs. Eventually they went to hit the ball to score runs and gave away the wickets and we finished as the winners.

Jahanara Alam, Fast bowler

We are extremely happy; we have registered history. This will surely inspire the next generation and take their game to the next level. This is a milestone; I will say similar to the one the men’s team had done during the 1999 World Cup against Pakistan. We have done the same defeating Pakistan. It is a big achievement for us.
