English opener Will Jacks hammered a blistering unbeaten innings to power Chattogram Challengers to the playoffs of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2022.
In the afternoon game, Jacks registered his fourth half-century in the tournament and then smashed the winning runs with a six over wide long-on in the final over to steer the port city outfit to a four-wicket win against Sylhet Sunrisers at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur Saturday.
With 10 points in as many games, Chattogram moved to the playoffs and are set to play the Eliminator Monday at the same venue.
Sylhet in contrast will be exiting with tails between their legs after only winning once, and having failed to defend yet another competitive total.
On the same day, Comilla Victorians will face table toppers Fortune Barishal in Qualifier 1.
Chasing 186, the Challengers were spot on with their approach as the right-handed Jacks dominated the Sylhet bowling attack with a fiery 92 off 57.
He also ensured there were partnerships to propel the side to the destination.
The biggest partnerships came alongside the West Indian Chadwick Walton of 69 runs for the third wicket followed by 35 with compatriot Benny Howell for the fourth.
With the attacking Shamim Hossain, Jacks pulled up a brisk 28-run stand for the fifth wicket before the left-hander departed scoring a seven-ball 21.
Jacks in his match winning innings blasted eight fours and half as many sixes.
Of the six Chattogram wickets, off-spinner Sohag Gazi and pacer Alauddin Babu picked a couple each.
Earlier, after being put to bat first West Indian Lendl Simmons, captain Ravi Bopara and Mosaddek Hossain took toll of the opposition bowlers as Sylhet posted 185 losing six wickets.
Simmons scored 42 off 27 while Bopara added 44 in 21 – his highest score in the tournament this season.
Mosaddek remained unbeaten on 35 off 22 with three boundaries and two over boundaries.
