Sylhet win as Dhaka suffer third loss

Dhaka, Sylhet meet again Friday in Ctg

Update : 25 Jan 2022, 06:40 PM

Sylhet Sunrisers registered their first win in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2022 and compounded the problems for star-studded Minister Group Dhaka.

Sylhet clinched a convincing seven-wicket victory in yet another low-scoring afternoon game at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday.

Dhaka’s worries with their batting in the tournament continued after the side were sent to bat first and were all-out inside the 19th over scoring just 100 runs.

The top-order failed and it was only Mohammad Naim who reached double figure but his 15 off 30 balls was anything but a T20 style innings and did not help the cause of his side.

Captain Mahmudullah chipped in from the middle adding 33 off 26 involving three boundaries while Shuvagata Hom scored a 16-ball 21.

The innings lacked in partnerships as Sylhet bowlers ensured taking wickets in regular intervals making use of the slow and low Mirpur wicket.

Dhaka had only two partnerships in double figure and the most had come for the fourth wicket – of 40 runs between Mahmudullah and Naim.

Sylhet bowlers pulled up a joint effort with left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam Apu under the limelight for his four wickets in as many overs conceding 18 runs.

Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed ran havoc in the lower order and finished with three scalps bowling only 2.4 overs.

Sylhet chasing the small total took 17 overs to reach the shore losing three wickets.

Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy played a run-ball 45 with four boundaries and one over boundary while Colin Ingram remained unbeaten on 21 to take the team to the winning total.

Veteran Mashrafe bin Mortaza in his first appearance for Dhaka in the tournament bagged two wickets in four overs.

After four games Minister Dhaka only have one win to their name while Sylhet in their two matches have won one and lost the other.

The two teams will face each other again Friday in the Chittagong phase of the tournament.

Both Sylhet and Dhaka teams are scheduled to travel to the port  city today.
