Minister Group Dhaka captain Mahmudullah led from the front with the bat to help his side clinch their maiden win in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2022.

Mahmudullah’s match-winning knock guided Dhaka to a four-wicket win with 15 balls to spare against Fortune Barishal in yet another low-scoring afternoon game at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Monday.

Chasing 130 runs, Dhaka were off to a horror start losing the top-order with just 10 runs on the board inside the third over.

The debacle was triggered after young left-arm pacer Shafiqul Islam removed in-form Dhaka opener Tamim Iqbal for a second-ball duck.

With the pitch favoring the pacers, the capital city outfit lost three more wickets – Shafiqul dismissed Mohammad Shahzad on five while Alzarri Joseph dismissed Mohammad Naim [four] and Jahurul Islam [nought] – to make the chase difficult.

Player of the match Mahmudullah however, held his nerve and worked on recovery with veteran Shuvagata Hom.

The duo pulled up a 69-run stand from 62 balls for the fifth wicket before the latter perished to Dwayne Bravo for a 25-ball 29 involving two boundaries.

Joined by Andre Russell, Mahmudullah then worked on another 50-run partnership before getting out just one run away from the target.

Mahmudullah, who was on run-a-ball 47, looked to get the match winning run from a flighted delivery of Shakib al Hasan.

The right-handed batter made some room and attempted to send the ball over extra cover but a mistimed shot resulted in an easy catch for Bravo at mid-off.

Windies star cricketer Russell, who failed in the first two games with the bat, reconciled on the day with a 15-ball 31 laced with three boundaries and two over boundaries.

Earlier, Barishal were sent to bat first and scenes were similar with the batters struggling with regular fall of wickets and labored to 129 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs.

The 37-run partnership between Shakib and Chris Gayle for the fourth wicket and another 33 between Gayle and Bravo for the sixth propelled the side to a decent total.

Gayle in his first appearance this season scored 36 off 30 with three fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Dhaka left-arm pacer Isuru Udana.

Bravo remained unbeaten on 26-ball 33 featuring three fours and a six.

This was Dhaka's first win in three games while Barishal have played two – winning one and losing the other.
