Comilla Victorians edged Sylhet Sunsirsers in a low-scoring encounter in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2022 in Mipur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Saturday.
Comilla skipper Imrul Kayes won the toss and elected to field first amid overcast condition at Mirpur.
Sylhet batting line-up struggled from the very beginning and lost regular wickets.
Departures of Anamul Haque Bijoy (three off nine), Mohammad Mithun (five off seven), Mosaddek Hossain Saikat (three off six) and Alok Kapali (six off 14) resembled sorry picture of Sylhet’s batting card as they were bundled out for just 97 runs in 19.1 overs.
The highest came from Colin Ingram’s bat as the left-hander scored 20 off 21 while the second best were from extras (19).
For Comilla, Nahidul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Shahidul Islam picked up two wickets each.
Comilla started their innings with Cameron Delport and experienced Faf du Plessis, who made his BPL debut.
But like Sylhet, Comilla batsmen also struggled scoring runs and lost wickets on a regular basis.
Du Plessis (two off seven) was the first batsman who went back to the pavilion as he was caught and bowled by Sohag Gazi in the first ball of the fourth over.
The fall of wickets of Delport (16), Mominul Hoque (15) and Imrul Kayes (10) added pressure while chasing a small target but Comilla held their nerve in the end as they managed a great escape and won by two wickets with eight balls to spare.
Nahidul added some crucial runs (16) while chasing and was later adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
Nazmul Islam Apu was the best bowler for Sylhet as the left-arm spinner took three wickets conceding 17 runs, while skipper Mosaddek and Gazi bagged two each.
