After winning the four-day version, Walton Central Zone continued their dominance in the one-day version of the Bangladesh Cricket League as they picked up their second win in as many matches Tuesday.
Central beat BCB North Zone by 28 runs at the academy ground of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium while in the other match of the round, BCB South Zone beat Islami Bank East Zone by three wickets.
After losing the toss Central batters put up a combined effort to post a substantial score of 262/5.
Although all the batters got double figure, none could go beyond 54.
After the departure of opener Mizanur Rahman, other opener Soumya Sarkar and Abdul Mazid batted steadily to add 77 in 21 overs before Soumya got dismissed for 40 off 60 balls.
Mazid got out after scoring a slow fifty before Central star Shakib al Hasan was stumped for 33 while trying to up the tempo.
Mosaddek Hossain, however, played a handy knock of 54 and with Al-Amin, who made 43 off 32 balls, added 82 vital runs off 68 balls for the fifth wicket.
North lost their opener Tanzid Hasan in the very first over while chasing but Parvez Hossain Emon and Naeem Islam steadied the ship with a 86-run stand.
Naeem eventually departed for 73, and when another experienced batter Mahmudullah went back for 43, leaving the side on 182.5 in 41st over, North’s hopes were finished.
Mosaddek, who got two wickets, was adjudged man of the match for his all-round effort.
In the other match, South bowlers contained the opponents to just 192/8.
Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was most successful but his opening bowling partner, off-spinner Nahidul Islam was most economical picking up two wickets conceding only 17 runs off 10 overs.
East skipper Imrul Kayes scored highest 69 but consumed 93 balls while the veteran Mohammad Ashraful made just 15 off 57 balls as their partnership for the third wicket added 61 from more than 20 overs.
In reply, South lost wickets in regular intervals but some of their batters scored around 30.
However, Mehedi Hasan and Farhad Reza’s 50-run stand for the seventh wicket proved most crucial in reaching the target.
Mehedi remained not out on 37, highest of the innings, while Nahidul, who got 27, was adjudged man of the match.
Nayeem Hasan and Afif Hossain bagged three wickets each.
