Visiting England beat Bangladesh by three wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match one-day international series in Mirpur Wednesday.

Chasing the home side's 209 on a tricky wicket, England, current world champions in both white-ball formats, reached their destination with eight balls to spare, riding on a masterful unbeaten 114 from Dawid Malan.

The Tigers picked up wickets at regular intervals, led by spinners Taijul Islam (3/54) and Mehedi Hasan Miraz (2/35), but Malan held strong at one end with his 145-ball knock, studded with eight fours and four sixes, and with help from the lower-order guided the tourists to victory.

Earlier, winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal chose to bat and Tigers were all out for 209 in 47.2 overs.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 58 while Mahmudullah added 38 for the hosts.
