Tamim Iqbal registered his 10th Test hundred before retiring hurt as Bangladesh posted 318 runs for the loss of three wickets at stumps on day three of the first Test in Chittagong Tuesday.
The southpaw scored 133 off 217 balls with 15 fours but did not come out to bat after the tea session due to cramp.
Tamim’s opening partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy was earlier dismissed for 58 but not before the duo put on a brilliant 162-run partnership.
Bangladesh had begun the day on 76/0 and both Tamim and Joy ensured the home side would negotiate the first session without any damage.
But after Joy’s departure, the Lankans went on to pick up the wickets of Nazmul Hossain Shanto (one) and Mominul Haque (two) in quick succession.
And although Tamim soon retired hurt, Mushfiqur Rahim (53) and Liton Das (54) took Bangladesh to stumps without further damage.
The unbroken fourth wicket stand added 98 runs before the close of play.
Sri Lanka made 397 in their first innings and the hosts now trail the visitors by 79 runs.
