The Bangladesh National cricket team players along with some discards held a confidential meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National stadium in Mirpur yesterday, and nobody present would reveal what was discussed.
The media was not alerted and Mushfiqur Rahim’s call for the meeting at the dressing room of the stadium came as a surprise even to many of his teammates. Headed by Mushfiq, the meeting saw the presence of almost every member of the national team. Players said that what was discussed was “very confidential” to them, and would not elaborate further. However, other sources said that the national players gathered to discuss the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). It is still not clear if and when the DPL will take place, amidst various new proposed changes in policy such as players grading system and auctioning like the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). There have been rumours that the national players will boycott the DPL if it introduces the new, auction-style payment system as they had bad experiences with it in the BPL. Most of the players have yet to be paid from last year’s BPL. Bangladesh Cricket Board and Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metro (CCDM) will have a meeting with the club officials today where the main agenda will be the new payment system and the exact date for the DPL to start. Sources said that the national team members are waiting for the board’s decision regarding the payment system, and are planning, along with local cricketers, to protest if the new system is pushed forward.
