Former Bangladesh left-arm spinner Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain Rubel breathed his last Tuesday afternoon, losing his battle with brain cancer.

He was 40.

He was diagnosed with brain tumor and had a surgery back in 2019.

Mosharraf was diagnosed with glioma, a type of tumor that starts in the glial cells of the brain or the spine.

Later the tumor had grown and he was receiving chemotherapy.

The left-arm spinner bagged over 550 wickets across all formats in a career spanning two decades.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board expressed deep bereavement at the passing of former Bangladesh national cricketer Mosharraf.

The BCB extended profound sympathies and condolences to the family of Mosharraf.

He was a regular player before getting ill as he played 112 first-class matches, 104 list A matches and 56 T20 matches in domestic cricket.

Having made his first class debut in the 2001-02 season, Mosharraf distinguished himself in the format and claimed 392 wickets.

He was also a handy batsman and scored 3,305 first-class runs with a best of 125 not out.

He played five ODIs for Bangladesh between 2008 and 2016 with 3/24 against Afghanistan in 2016 being his best return.

He was a consistent performer in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 and Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.

One of his crowning moments in the domestic arena came in the 2013 BPL final where he was adjudged man of the match.
