Liton jumps to career best position in Test ranking

The right-handed batter went up 17 places to 15th position

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das jumped to his career best position in the latest ICC Test ranking. The right-handed batter went up 17 places to 15th position after finishing with 196 runs in the recently concluded two-match Test series against hosts New Zealand.

Liton, in the first Test, batted in one innings and scored 86. In the second match, the Bangladesh batter scored eight in the first innings but bounced back strong under pressure situation and registered his second century in the format scoring 102 runs in the second innings.

Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque went up eight places to 37th finishing with 138 runs in four innings backed with one half-century. Top order left-handed batter Najmul Hossain shanto on the other end is up 21 places in the ranking table to 87th scoring 114 runs.

With the ball, Bangladesh right-arm fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has progressed 17 places to 88th with nine wickets in the series. Ebadot was crucial with career best seven scalps for 121 runs in the Bangladesh’s emphatic win in the first Test of the series.

The series ended 1-1 with Bangladesh securing a historic eight-wicket win in the first game. The second Test of the series went to the Kiwis winning the game by an innings and 117 runs.

Following the series New Zealand and Bangladesh were on sixth and seventh positions, respectively, in the World Test Championship Points Table. Bangladesh in the 2021-23 cycle so far has played four Tests and have secured one win – coming against New Zealand. Bangladesh had played the previous two Tests were against Pakistan at home and had lost both.
