Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will rethink on issuing No Objection Certificate (NC) to Shakib al Hasan to participate in the upcoming edition of the India Premier League T20. The decision from the board came after Shakib involved himself in controversy criticizing the board and few of its directors during a Live session on Facebook.
BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan, following a impromptu meeting involving a few of BCB directors at BCB president Nazmul Hasan’s residence on Sunday, informed the board will soon rethink of having allowed Shakib in IPL T20 by skipping national duty.
“We did not sit for a meeting on that (Shakib issue) today (Sunday). So far I know is he gave a long interview, I am looking forward to watch that soon. I still do not know in details of what he has said. Heard only a little,” said Akram to the media on Sunday.

“Today (in the meeting) we mainly discussed on the ongoing series in New Zealand. We have both ODI and T20I matches. We discussed that we do not want to put any extra pressure on the team. But among many agenda we had a little discussion on the letter that Shakib gave to the board and I that I did not read it well. I might have understood the letter wrong, Shakib wants to play Test it seems (following the interview),” said the former Bangladesh captain.
Akram said the board will soon meet for a meeting where they can rethink on Shakib’s NOC to participate in IPL T20 set to begin next month.
“We will rethink about his NOC. If he is interested to play Test, then he shall be part of the squad and travel to play in Sri Lanka. And about the rest (of what Shakib said against the board and its directors) we will decide on what we can do,” Akram informed.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib on Sunday claimed BCB cricket operations chairman Akram has been misinterpreting the cricketer’s decision over playing India Premier League and not Test cricket for Bangladesh.
“I do not think anyone else in Bangladesh would be able to do the level of work which I can if I ever get to play a role in BCB," said @Sah75official @BCBtigers https://t.co/1nyQVQ6KkT

Left-arm all-rounder Shakib came under heavy criticism for his decision to play the upcoming edition of IPL T20 in April and not the two Tests for Bangladesh against hosts Sri Lanka. BCB director Akram speaking to the media on the issue emphasized Shakib not willing to further play the longest format of cricket for Bangladesh which Shakib denied.
Shakib during the interview also questioned doings of some BCB directors and claimed he would be the best BCB president in history if ever given the opportunity.
Shakib is set to return to the IPL T20 after a one-year ban with Kolkata Knight Riders signing him for INR 3.2 crores at the auction. Shakib had previously played for the Knight Riders between 2011 and 2017, and was an integral member of their championship winning sides of 2012 and 2014. The Bangladesh cricketer’s appearance is however now in jeopardy.
