Mehedi Hasan Miraz stroked his maiden Test hundred to guide Bangladesh to an imposing first innings total of 430 during day two of their first Test against the West indies at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Thursday.

In reply, West Indies have scored 75 runs from 29 overs losing two wickets before stumps at day two. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite was unbeaten on 49 while Nkrumah Bonner was batting on 17 for the Windies.

Left arm pacer Mostafizur Rahman picked up both the wickets for the Tigers

Miraz, coming in at No 8, scored 103 off 168 balls before being the last man to be dismissed as the hosts batted out 150.2 overs after the early departure of overnight batsman Liton Das (38 off 67).

Liton was castled by Jomel Warrican moments after Bangladesh resumed day two on 242/5.

The 23-year old Miraz then added 67 alongside Shakib al Hasan (68 off 150) for the seventh wicket before Shakib was caught at point by captain Kraigg Brathwaite off Rahkeem Cornwall.

Miraz, who struck 13 boundaries during his nearly 4-hour vigil at the crease, celebrates reaching his hundred AFP

Miraz then frustrated the Windies further with 44 and 57-run stands with his spin bowling colleagues Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan for the eighth and ninth wicket respectively.

Taijul and Nayeem provided valuable support, surviving 72 and 46 deliveries for their 18 and 24 respectively as Bangladesh went past the 400-mark.

It was alongside No 11 batsman Mustafizur Rahman (3 off 11) however that Miraz reached his hundred as he became the fifth Bangladeshi to score a ton and take a five-wicket haul in Tests.

Warrican led the way for the West Indies with four wickets while Cornwall picked up two.
