Rony eyes way back with HP squad

Update : 01 Jul 2017, 08:37 PM
Left-arm pacer Abu Haider Rony rose to the limelight in Bangladesh cricket following his dazzling performances in the third edition of the BPL T20 two years ago. Rony was instrumental behind Comilla Victorians' triumph as he finished as the second highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps. The brilliant displays earned the 21-year old paceman a spot in the national team as he made his international bow in January, 2016, in the third T20I against Zimbabwe at home. Before flying to India for the 2016 World T20, Rony appeared in the final of the Asia Cup T20 2016 held in Dhaka. Later, he played two T20Is in the flagship ICC event, against Ireland and Oman. This was however, pretty much the last time the speedster featured for the national team. He had a disappointing return, accounting for only three wickets in five T20Is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JzQYPz-TMY With that said, after being given the opportunity to tour Australia with the BCB High Performance Unit, Rony is looking to make the most of the opportunity and script a possible comeback to the national side. Rony is part of the 16-member HP squad that left Dhaka on Saturday night for a two-week training camp in Darwin, Australia. He was named in the squad after he claimed 35 wickets in 16 matches in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2016-17 season for champion Gazi Group Cricketers. “My performance in the Dhaka League will inspire me. I finished as the highest wicket-taker and this has boosted my confidence. The way I got wickets in the league, I will try to maintain that in Australia,” Rony told the media in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday. Led by wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das, the visiting side will play five one-day matches and one three-day game against local opposition. All the matches are scheduled to be held at Marrara Cricket Ground. Rony added that the tour is a big opportunity for the national discards to get some action under their belts, with the exception of domestic cricket of course.
“Those who are out of the national team do not get enough chances to play matches. This time we’re going to Australia and it will be a great experience for us. We do not always get enough opportunities in our conditions but there will be help for the pace bowlers in Australian conditions. The experience we will gather in Australia will benefit us in future,” he said.
Rony went on to say since his last appearance for the Tigers, he has specifically worked on controlling the new ball in order to get early breakthroughs. “I had less control with the new ball. I’m trying to swing the new ball and give breakthroughs to the team. In the Dhaka League, I tried to give early breakthroughs in every match. If I can take one-two wickets with the new ball, I could then take two more wickets with the old ball. Ultimately, it will be better for the team,” Rony explained.HP squadAnamul Haque, Saifuddin, Liton Das (C), Tanbir Hayder, Mehedi Hasan Siddiqui, Imtiaz Hossain, Abu Haider Rony, Abu Jayed Chowdhury, Nazmul Hossain Shanto (VC), Ebadat Hossain, Tasamul Haque, Abul Hasan, Irfan Sukkur, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Nihaduzzaman and Jubair Hossain
