Khulna sign Sarfraz, Shadab for BPL 5

Update : 19 Jun 2017, 08:20 PM
BPL T20 franchise Khulna Titans have recruited Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy winning captain Sarfraz Ahmed and leg-spinner Shadab Khan for the upcoming season. The Titans have also retained left-arm pacer Junaid Khan, who was a key part of the Khulna side in the last edition of the BPL. The Titans announced the signings of the Pakistan trio on Monday through their official Facebook page, a day after Pakistan lifted the Champions Trophy following a 180-run win over India in England. Khulna finished third in their maiden BPL appearance last year and have already announced former Sri Lanka cricketer Mahela Jayawardene as the head coach for the next two seasons of the tournament.  The fifth edition of the BPL is set to begin in November this year. With the inclusion of the Sylhet franchise, the tournament this year will feature eight teams. The players’ draft of the franchise-based T20 league will be held on September 16. Each side will be able to recruit their “Icon” cricketers and retain three local players from the last season. The name of the Icon cricketers and local players will be announced before the draft. The teams will have to pick a minimum of 10 local cricketers, and a maximum of 13, from the draft. A side can register an unlimited number of foreign players ahead of the draft but must pick at least two overseas cricketers from the draft. The BPL GC is mulling allowing five foreigners in the playing XI. However, the decision is yet to be finalised.
