Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been denied the No Objection Certificate by Bangladesh Cricket Board to participate in the Indian Premier League Twenty20, scheduled to begin later this month.
BCB’s decision was due to Mustafizur’s obligations with the national side.
Bangladesh are set to tour Sri Lanka in late September for a three-match Test series, part of the World Test Championship.
Mustafizur is said to have been approached by at least two franchises from the most successful T20 league in the world.
Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders both had one of their pacers unavailable for the season.
Mumbai replaced Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga with Australian quick James Pattinson, while Kolkata are yet to find a replacement for Australian paceman Harry Gurney.
“Yes, he [Mustafizur] had an offer from the IPL but we did not give him NOC as we have the Sri Lanka tour coming up,” said BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan to a cricket-based website Friday.
Bangladesh are prepping to return to international cricket after a break since March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bangladesh cricketers are likely to be taken into a week-long residential camp before travelling to Sri Lanka for the three Tests.
