DPL 2016-17 SEASON: Abahani, Doleshwar, Mohammedan prevail in high-scoring day

Abahani Limited, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited registered wins in the first round of the Super League in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2016-17 season on Wednesday. Riding on opening batsman Imtiaz Hossain’s century, Doleshwar defeated Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 40 runs in a curtailed game at the BKSP ground 3. The second game at BKSP, ground 4, between Abahani and Prime Bank Cricket Club, also got curtailed as the former recorded a 60-run win. Meanwhile in Fatullah, Mohammedan bagged a seven-run win over Gazi Group Cricketers.Abahani v PrimeAfter being sent in to bat first, Abahani posted 321 losing six wickets in 47 overs, courtesy three half-centuries. Opener Liton Kumar Das continued his fine form with the bat, smashing 85 off 73 balls with eight boundaries and four over boundaries. The right-handed batsman is the highest run-scorer of the season so far with 663 runs, including two hundreds and four fifties. Youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun added 65 and 60 respectively. Prime pacers Al Amin Hossain and Ariful Haque picked up two wickets each. Later, Prime scored 273 before losing all of their wickets in 43.3 overs in pursuit of 334 in 47 overs (revised target). Abahani left-arm spinner Manan Sharma notched three wickets while for Prime, opener Zakir Hasan top-scored with 55.Doleshwar v JamalImtiaz’s second ton this season took him to second spot in the highest run-scorers' list. In the 46-overs per side game, Doleshwar were invited to take first guard and thanks to Imtiaz’s 128 and 67 from national discard Shahriar Nafees, they posted 274 losing seven wickets in 46 overs. In his 109-ball innings, Imtiaz slammed 17 fours and four sixes. Jamal leg-spinner Tanbir Hayder took two wickets. Jamal were set a revised target of 292 but a lack of a big knock meant they eventually ended their chase on 251 in 42.2 overs. Tanbir’s 46 off 41 deliveries was the highest of the innings. Sri Lankan seamer Chathuranga de Silva was the most successful bowler for Abahani with two wickets. However, Mohammedan pacer Kamrul Islam defended the total as he gave away only eight in the final over of the game, picking up the wicket of lower-order batsman Abu Haider along the way. Gazi's innings was propelled by opener Munim Shahriar's 83-ball 88 and all-rounder Sohrawardi Shuvo's unbeaten 54-ball 57. Earlier, Mohammedan, asked to bat first posted 324 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs. No 3 batsman Rony Talukdar’s 92 guided Mohammedan to an imposing total.
