Suspended Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan’s favorite bat that he used during ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was sold for Taka 20 lakhs in an auction held on Wednesday. Shakib on Tuesday announced on Facebook Live that he would auction the bat.
The auction, which was held on a Facebook page called Auction 4 Action, ran for several hours and eventually found its buyer in an USA Bangladeshi resident, called Raj. Floor price for the bat was kept at Taka 500,000.
The money generated from selling the bat will be spent to aid the people suffering in Bangladesh during the coronavirus pandemic..
“Raj bhai deserves this bat. He has been part of the bid from the start. He wants to give this bat to his kids. I believe the almighty wanted him to have this bat because of his noble thought. So thank you Raj bhai and also other who participated,” said Shakib at the end of the bid held on Facebook.
Shakib showcased brilliant performance in the World Cup last year as the left-hander scored 606 runs in eight matches with an average of 86.57 and strike rate of 96.03.
The former Bangladesh captain had scored five fifties and two centuries (against England and the West Indies) in the tournament where Bangladesh finished eighth out of 10 teams.
