Bangladesh continued to warm up well prior to the 2017 Champions Trophy as they thrashed Ireland A by 199 runs in a practice match at Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Wednesday.
Batting first, the Tigers posted an imposing total of 394 for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs, riding on top-order batsman Sabbir Rahman's whirlwind 86-ball 100, featuring as many as 16 fours and a six.
Opening batter Tamim Iqbal (86 off 74), all-rounders Mahmudullah (49 off 31) and Shakib al Hasan (44 off 27) and wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim (41 off 24) chipped in with valuable contributions.
Sabbir and Tamim, whose innings contained 14 boundaries and two sixers, added 103 runs for the second wicket partnership to lay the foundation for a big total.
In reply, Ireland A were skittled out for 195 in 41.2 overs, courtesy some disciplined bowling from the Bangladesh attack, especially the pacemen.
Pacemen Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain and captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza shared six wickets between themselves while Shakib bagged two.
This warm-up game was part of the Tigers' preparation for the impending tri-nation series, involving Ireland and New Zealand, starting Friday. The men in red and green will take on the Irish in the tournament opener in Malahide on Friday.
Following the tri-series, Bangladesh will turn their attention to their main mission – the eighth edition of the Champions Trophy where they have been grouped together with host England and trans-Tasman rivals Australia and New Zealand. The eight-team ICC competition will be held in England and Wales from June 1-18.
