Mushfiqur Rahim has become the highest run scorer for Bangladesh in Test cricket, overtaking Tamim Iqbal’s tally in the longest format of the game, and the diminutive batsman revealed a friendly rivalry between the two.
Tamim scored 41 in the first innings and now has 4,405 runs in 115 innings, while Mushfiq scored an unbeaten 203 in the first innings and now has 4413 runs in 130 innings.
Tamim and Mushfiqur are good friends in real life and have been playing cricket with each throughout the age groups. Mushfiqur gave high praise to Tamim, mentioning that the left hander is his favourite batsman and that the two have a healthy competition to see who can score more runs for their country.
Mushfiq wished Tamim the best of luck in every subsequent innings, although he also mentioned that always wants to be at least one run ahead of his compatriot.

“Tamim always knows about the records. I have always said that Tamim is my favourite batsman. We always have a healthy competition between us. I always inspire him and he also always inspires me. I know he is happy with my success and I also become happy when he becomes successful. This kind of healthy competition is good for the team. I always want wholeheartedly that Tamim scores the highest runs, but also I want to score at least one more run than him,” Mushfiq said with a smile during the post day press conference at Mirpur.
“Every record in Bangladesh cricket belongs to Tamim. He always sets the benchmark in our cricket, like how he scored 334 runs in the recent first class game which is the highest individual score in our country. After such a record, there are always discussions on who can break the record. I could not break that or get close, but maybe in future I will try to break that record. Also, I wish at least once I may take Tamim’s wicket with my own bowling,” he added.
