India also won by an innings and 130 runs in the first Test at Indore

Update : 24 Nov 2019, 08:54 PM

Hosts India needed lest than an hour of play on day three to wrap up the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, thrashing the visiting Tigers by an innings and 46 runs in the second match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata Sunday.

Earlier, India also won by an innings and 130 runs in the first Test at Indore.

Bangladesh resumed on a score of 152/6 on the third day of the second Test, but survived only 52 deliveries before losing their remaining wickets for a score of 195 in the second innings.

Bangladesh’s senior batsman Mahmudullah, who had retired hurt with a pulled hamstring in the evening of day two, did not return to the crease on the day. Mushfiqur Rahim, who was not out at the end of day two, was joined by Ebadat Hossian to resume the innings.

Ebadat faced only four deliveries before losing his wicket to Indian pacer Umesh Yadav in the third over of the day, the 35th over of Bangladesh’s second innings. Subsequently, Mushfiq put on a 32-run partnership with Al-Amin before also losing his wicket to Yadav in the 40th over of the innings.

On the third delivery of the over, Mushfiq charged down the wicket to play an aggressive shot. However, he only managed a thick edge and gifted Ravindra Jadeja an easy catch in the extra cover region. It was a frustrating end to defiant innings from the senior batsman, where he scored 74 runs off 96 deliveries.

The loss of Mushfiq’s wicket left Al-Amin and Abu Jayed as Bangladesh’s last batting pair in front of a near full-house at Eden Gardens, as the team management confirmed that Mahmudullah would be unable to play.

The last pair added 11 runs to the innings before Al-Amin was caught behind off the bowling of Yadav, ending the Bangladesh innings on a score of 195 after 41.1 overs. It was a dismal outing for Bangladesh, as they were unable to cross 200 in either innings of the second Test, which was the first day-night Test for both Bangladesh and India.

In the first innings, Bangladesh were bowled out for a paltry 106 surviving just 30.3 overs.

Yadav took five wickets in the second innings for India, while Ishant Sharma took four.

Ishant was adjudged man-of-the-match for his nine-wicket haul over the two innings, and was also declared man-of-the-series for his total haul of 12 wickets.

For the first time in Indian Test history, the spinners were denied wickets on home soil as the Indian pacers took all 19 wickets in the second Test.

This was the fourth successive innings victory for the Indian side, as they beat visiting South Africa by an innings and 202 runs and an innings and 137 runs in their previous two Test matches.

With seven wins form seven matches, India are currently leading the World Test championship with 360 points. Bangladesh have now played two matches in the championship so far, losing both by innings margins.
